The Greenwood Genetic Center has an immediate opening on our Greenwood campus for a Centralized Medical Scheduler. The successful candidate will work very closely with the Clinical Operations Manager and Satellite Office Team Leads to enhance the workflow of the entire Clinical Division. After referrals have been authorized, the scheduler is responsible for calling patients to confirm point-of-contact information, inform them of patient history and consent form requirements, and schedule their appointments across clinics located across the state. Performs advanced scheduling functions including the loading of new appointment schedules, loading changes to previously loaded schedules, and coordinating provider schedules. Ensures that all provider schedules are accurately loaded in a timely manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provides daily oversight of appointment scheduling team operations
  • May train coworkers and other personnel on activities related to the appointment schedule

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 2 Years of work experience in a related area that demonstrates professionalism, inclusive of the ability to work well with others, provide outstanding customer service to patients and handle stressful situations in a constructive manner.
  • Substitutable Education & Experience: None.
  • Required Certifications/Licensure: None.
  • Required Training: Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel.); experience with EPIC and Microsoft SharePoint preferred but not required.

Essential Functions

  • Oversight of appointment scheduling for multiple providers.
  • Manage work-flow of all appointment scheduling procedures including, but not limited to:
    • Ensuring preferred point-of-contact information for patients
    • Contacting patients to inform and remind them of patient history forms and consent form requirements
    • Call-backs to patients as needed
    • Fielding calls from patients inquiring about appointment status
    • Filling-in and loading new schedule templates
    • Rescheduling patients due to provider absences (planned and unplanned)
    • Apply clerical and clinical knowledge for the purposes of scheduling patient appointments.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Answer telephone, schedule appointments, provide call transfers to appropriate area as needed, and generally assist patients with questions.
  • Provide trouble-shooting and problem resolution for hard-to-find and/or work-in appointments.
  • Perform schedule accuracy audits as necessary.
  • Must fill-in when needed at other clerical areas as requested by management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) has an immediate opening for a fulltime Administrative Assistant. The position will be located in our Greenville Clinic office. The primary duties of this role include front desk reception, patient data entry, medical record maintenance and oversight of routine correspondence.

Candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to maintain courteous, professional and effective working relations with all employees at all levels of the organization.

An Associate’s degree is preferred, but will substitute experience for education. Related administrative experience in the healthcare field preferred. Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite are required; Epic Electronic Health Record experience is preferred.

The Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) has an immediate opening for a fulltime Biochemical Genetics Laboratory Technologist. The Biochemical Laboratory of the Greenwood Genetic Center provides diagnostic and screening tests for a variety of inherited metabolic disorders. As members of GGC’s Metabolic Treatment Team, our Biochemical Laboratory faculty and staff strive to provide clinicians and families with an accurate and rapid confirmatory diagnosis. The position will be located in the Diagnostic Laboratory on our Greenwood campus.

The primary responsibilities of the Biochemical Technologist include using standard techniques such as ion exchange chromatography and mass spectrometry to analyze clinical diagnostic samples that are submitted for laboratory analysis.The technologist will follow standard operating procedures for sample handling, sample processing, test analyses, and recording of test results, and will adhere to the quality control policies of the laboratory.In addition, there will be opportunities for test development and research.The Biochemical Technologist will report to the Biochemical Lab Supervisor and Biochemical Laboratory Director.

This position will be responsible for assisting in monitoring key quality activities and processes for Greenwood Genetic Center Diagnostic Laboratories under the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager.

These duties include analyzing Molecular, Biochemical, and Cytogenomic laboratory statistical quality reports, to ensure laboratory regulatory standards are being met.

Activities relating to the operations of these departments may also include monitoring regulatory requirements in the categories of safety, electronic records, personnel, databases, specimen management, record retention, patient data, interfaces, HIPAA, results reporting, reagents, instrumentation, test methods and validation, maintenance, etc.

The Quality Improvement Assistant will assess findings and suggest improvements based on patient safety goals.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in biology, chemistry, or life sciences
  • ASCP Certification preferred
  • Previous experience in diagnostic laboratory workflows/analysis.

The Bioinformatics Analyst will be expected to assist the Bioinformatics Specialist team perform detailed analysis of Next-Generation Sequencing data in both a research and diagnostic setting. Fluency in several programming languages, along with a well-rounded knowledge of genetics/molecular biology, is essential in order to understand and communicate findings/results. Collaboration with additional individuals including Clinical Laboratory Directors is also essential to providing the most informative and concise results. The Bioinformatics Analyst must also be able to adapt their skill set to accommodate for technological advances and a steadily increasing volume of high-throughput data.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related field is required
  • At least 2 years of related experience is preferred
  • Fluency in Python, JAVA, R, or C++ is required
  • Database experience is preferred
  • Understanding of Biology and Genetics is preferred

The Greenwood Genetic Center has an opening for a part-time bus driver for the Mobile Genetics Lab. The Mobile Genetics Lab, also known as the Gene Machine, is a 41 foot custom coach equipped as a mobile science laboratory. The Gene Machine allows students to engage in fun, entertaining and educational scenarios where they have the opportunity to learn about genetic traits and disorders, understand the lab techniques used in making a diagnosis as well as consider the ethical implications of testing and explore careers in the life sciences. The successful candidate would travel with a team of Genetic Education Instructors.

The primary responsibilities include driving the Mobile Genetics Lab within South Carolina, completing forms and records related to Mobile Lab operations, functions and maintenance and working cooperatively with students, school system personnel, GGC employees and the general public. The applicant must demonstrate knowledge of bus operations and equipment, motor vehicle laws and safety standards. Assignments will be rotated with one additional driver on the team.

Candidates must possess and maintain DOT medical certification and a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License with an excellent driving record. Graduation from high school, with experience in bus or similar vehicle operation, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which would provide knowledge, skills and abilities of demonstrated, substantive experience in the operation of large buses required. Ability to travel within South Carolina with some overnight assignments is required.

Additional Requirements: Ability to sit, drive and maneuver long-wheel-based vehicles for extended periods of time. Considerable ability to lend assistance to passengers with disabilities; ability to provide lifting/moving assistance to disabled persons (some wheelchair- bound) as they are boarding or deboarding the bus.

Schedule: Traveling approximately two weeks per month (4 days per week).

The Greenwood Genetic Center has an immediate opening for a fulltime Board Certified/Board Eligible Biochemical Geneticist at the Assistant or Associate Level. The position is located in the Columbia office of the Greenwood Genetic Center and will have an emphasis on the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of patients with inborn errors of metabolism requiring dietary treatment as well as enzyme replacement therapy. There will be the opportunity to participate in teaching and clinical research. The successful candidate is also expected to participate in the on call schedule for patients with biochemical disorders.

The responsibilities of the position include patient care (inpatient consultations, outpatient metabolic genetics clinic and newborn screen consultation); collaboration with GGC biochemical genetics laboratory; and teaching of genetic counselors, USC medical students and residents. The qualified candidate will be offered a faculty position with USC at rank commensurate with their qualifications.
